"God will provide". How often has Scripture spoken words such as these! From the story of Abraham up to Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, and on to Paul's words in Second Corinthians, we hear such affirmations of confidence. God will provide, because God knows what we need, God knows how we accept each gift and how we use it, whether for God's glory or for our own aggrandizement.
"God will provide." These words call us to a great dependence on God. At the same time, they call us to that trust in God which makes all our dependence on him mature and spiritual. Dependence on God could, indeed, be childish and irresponsible, if it were not grounded in a firm faith in God's providence. Confidence in God's providence does not deprive us of responsibility for our own lives and for the happiness and spiritual well-being of those around us. God's gifts are given to us that we may responsibly use them for the sake of the Kingdom, for a greater union with Jesus in His mission of saving the world.
Father in Heaven, bless us all, individually and as a human race, with all the gifts that we need, so that we may live as Your fully mature and responsible children.
