BOOK OF REVELATION      (continued from previous issue)
By Carlos Mesters

Continue from ......
The future: the judgement and condemnation of the Beast and the Dragon (14:6-20:15)

  1. The coming of the day of judgement (14:14-20)

  2. The fall of Babylon (15:1-19:10)

  3. The second defeat and the final judgement (20:7-15)

  4. The thousand years over, the Dragon is free (20:7) just for a while (20:3). Roaming the world over, he seduces the nations into forming a league to wage war against the people of God (20:8). They besiege "the camp of the saints, which is the beloved City" (20:9). Once again the battle is unequal. It is the last attempt of the Serpent against the descendants of the Woman. God again intervenes on the side of the Woman and of his people. A fire comes down from heaven and devours the nations that serve the Dragon (20:9). The Dragon too is made a prisoner and thrown into the lake of fire in which the Beast and the false prophet were already flung. There will they remain for ever (20:10).

John then sees the white throne of God (20:11), the throne of judgement. Death is obliged to give back to God all the women and men it has swallowed during the past (20:13). All are judged, each according to one's own works (20:12-13). The judgement over, death, already defeated, and all those whose names had not been written in the book of life are now thrown into the lake of fire (20:14). Ultimately there will remain only life, and life in abundance (Jn. 10:10). Everything is ready for the great final feast.
