INTENTION : |
That researchers in scientific and technological fields, may welcome the church's incessant calls to make wise and responsible use of the successes they have attained.
|
Our world has made gigantic progress in the field of science and technology. This progress has bridged distances and reduced time spans to such an extent that ours can be called the age of "instant information". It makes us sit back and marvel at the achievements of human intelligence.
However, the greatness of the human intelligence rebounds to the greatness of God who created us. Our intelligence is no threat to God's omniscience. The more we develop our talents, the more homage we pay to God. The more we are honoured, the more God is glorified. We are the crown of creation, but God's humble servants.
But the real risk comes when we try to play god and be our own moral master, lawgiver and decider of what is good and evil. Therefore there is need then for us:- to make wise use of the advances of modern science as a means to know and praise the Creator, to harness the great resources of scientific research and discovery to promote a culture of life and thus honour God; and to channel all that scientific progress has to offer to better the conditions of his fellow brothers and sisters and make this world, which God so loved as to send to it His only Son, a better place to live in.
