What was it like for the Apostles to continue life after the Ascension of Christ? Did they feel a lack of courage or maybe a loss of motivation? Or, the show's finished, let's all get back to where we left life. Were these their sentiments?
No, not after encountering the Risen Lord. The experience of having seen Jesus alive again among them built up their courage and the promise of the Advocate raised their confidence in the mission that Christ was sending them to continue.
What was now precious to them was the years of living with Jesus. This experience was not just that of the senses, what they saw, heard and did, but also a spiritual one, brought by the power and confidence of the Holy Spirit.
Look at the conviction with which Peter speaks up when the Apostles are brought before the Sanhedrin. It is a conviction from the belief that Jesus is risen and alive. They are also not alone in their defense for the Spirit aids them in their witnessing.
Today, we continue the work of the Apostles. The same Spirit works among us for God has given His Spirit without reserve to us. But let us ask ourselves: Does my witnessing stem from the relationship that I have with Jesus?
Lord Jesus, help me to know You better so that I might more genuinely witness to Your presence in my life.
