Barnabas originally came from the island of Cyprus. He was sent to Antioch in Syria and from there went to Tarsus, to bring back Paul, where they did wonderful work for a year. He was with Paul on the first missionary journey into what is now Turkey but, because of a disagreement, they separated and Barnabas returned to Cyprus. Like Paul, he is honoured with the title of 'Apostle', being seen as a founder member of the Christian community. Like Paul, he followed closely Jesus' instructions in today's Gospel - proclaim the Kingdom of God, heal many, bring back the outcasts, liberate people from evil powers and live lives of utter simplicity. We thank God for such wonderful examples of how to live the Christian life. Allowing for many differences in our life situation, do we have the courage to follow in their footsteps?
Help us, like Barnabas, to proclaim the Gospel by word and action.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
