Jesus is on His way to Jerusalem and visits the house of His two friends, Mary and Martha. Martha welcomes Jesus into their home and then gets busy preparing a meal for them all. However, Mary, her sister, just sits at the feet of Jesus and listens to Him. Martha gets upset that her sister is not helping her in any way; she seems to be doing nothing. And yet when Martha complains, Jesus tells her that she is anxious and upset about many things. Mary is the one who has chosen the better part which will not be taken from her. What was that "better part"? It was that she was listening to Jesus. Listening is something Jesus tells us to do many times in the Gospel. If we do not listen to Him, how are we to know how we are to love and serve Him and do the things He wants us to do in the way He wants us to do them? Many of us are like Martha. We think it is good to be busy but it is very easy to be busy about the wrong things. To know what are the right things we have to stop and listen. Prayer is a good time for that.
Lord, give me a listening ear.

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
