From the time of creation, our human existence has been experienced in the context of interpersonal relationship. This relationship portrays a quality of life which is noble and is different from that of the animals. In this relationship there is the element of sacredness and a bettering experience of the immediacy of God's presence. This experience is depicted in the reading from the Book of Genesis, where humankind is called to collaborate in the work of creation and is also endowed with the grace of being trustees of the created world. It is a sacred privilege and is exercised through the naming of the animals.
Hence, the emphasis on our interpersonal relationships is not one of domination over the other, rather it is a call to experience the complementary nature of human life. It is through this attitude of living that one sees the way of a life of fulfillment in human relationship.
As human beings we are called to fulfillment in one another through our mutual self-donation. But if this is not seen or experienced in our lives, then we violate the sacredness of our interpersonal relationships.
Indeed, Jesus came to restore these interpersonal relationships. In this lies the sacredness of human life that fulfils, and a way of sanctifying one another. For scriptures says, "For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified have all one origin."
Lord, let me grow each day in fostering better relationships and become more and more convinced that we are all God's children.
