"Arch-Angel" is the highest rank among the nine listed in the classification of this World of pure Spirits. But how did these ranks enter the Holy Books? Israel, a small, monotheistic nation surrounded by polytheistic empires, should beware of the evil influence of these neighbors. Israel had to admit their cultural superiority; so she learned from their Culture, even to the extent of adopting their "gods". But, faithful to her monotheistic principles, she changed their identity from gods into ministers of the only true God. The names of today's three heroes all end in "el", an abbreviation of God's name: Michael-"Whoever equals God?"; Gabriel -"God is our hero"; Raphael- "God heals". And the generic name "angel" means "Messenger". Holy Scripture often uses angels as mediators between God and his People, again, imitating the style of the Imperial Court: The Emperor never meets people directly, but always through his Ministers. But, how about "God- with-us", or "The Word made flesh"? So, putting aside the question of their existence and nature, let us learn, through the various roles assigned to them, God's desire to communicate with us; then we respond, with Christas the only Mediator, ABBA (Father)!

Lord, lead us to communicate You to others.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
