Today we read Luke's version of Jesus calling His first disciples. As in Mark, Jesus meets these disciples washing their nets. He does not call them immediately. Instead, He uses Peter's boat to preach to the people. Jesus still does that because today, the Church is Peter's boat. When He is finished, He tells Peter to put out the nets for a catch. Peter is reluctant because, after a whole night fishing, he knows there are no fish. When, just to please the Master, he does drop the nets, he is overwhelmed by the number of fish. He realises Jesus is no ordinary Person and acknowledges his sinfulness. This is an anticipation of the time when, after many promises, he will three times deny even knowing who Jesus is. But Jesus has other plans for Peter and his companions. In future, it is people and not just fish they will be gathering to the Lord. Jesus can use us, too, even with all our faults and failings, to do His work of building the Kingdom.

O Lord, may Your Kingdom come!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all those who are going through moments of inner difficulty and trial may find in Christ the light and support which leads them to discover authentic happiness.
