From the human point of view there was no chance to catch any fish on that day. If there were no fish at night, there was even less chance of there being fish during the day. But for Jesus everything was possible. At His word the nets and boats were overflowing with fish.
When Peter saw this miracle, he was amazed and terrified as well. He felt unworthy. He knew that he was a sinful man and because of that he asked Jesus to depart from him. Perhaps Peter thought that miracles were only for saints. However, miracles are for people of faith who live in the truth, who live in the awareness of their sinfulness as well.
It is a paradox but God also chooses sinners to proclaim the Gospel. Two thousand years ago God chose Peter and his companions; today God is calling us to catch people into His Church. May we faithfully follow Jesus so that He may use us as fishers of men.
"The Lord has made known His salvation; has shown His justice to the nations."
