Today we celebrate the feast of St Francis Xavier, one of the greatest missionaries of our Church and the patron (with St Therese of the Child Jesus) of the missionary work of the Church. He died at the early age of 44, literally worn out with the huge energy he expended in bringing the Gospel to so many parts of Asia. He died within sight of China, his most ambitious goal. But his dreams would be fulfilled later on by later missionaries. Today's Gospel about the healing of two blind men is very relevant to today's feast. For what was Francis Xavier's goal but to open the eyes of people who had never heard of what God had done for them in Jesus Christ? What we have in this Gospel story is not just the restoration of physical sight. The blind men gained much more. They gained in-sight. They could now really see. They could see who Jesus really is, the Word of God, the Action of God and so they cannot contain themselves. They simply have to share that experience with everyone else. It is not something that they can keep to themselves. In other words, they become missionaries, something that is expected of everyone of us and not only of certain people. 'Go, therefore, teach all nations.'
Lord, let us never be lacking in zeal, but keep our spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. (Rom. 12:11).

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
