The First Letter of Peter is a memorable meditation on the mystery and meaning of Christian baptism. Peter encourages us to eagerness: "be as eager for milk as newborn babes." A Christian should be eager, zealous, full of desire for the things of the Lord. Jesus draws us to the Father, attracting us with His deeds and words, His promises and, most of all, His person. Many of us were baptized as babies, and have to grow into a sense of the attractiveness of Jesus. We have to grow in eagerness and zeal. Those who found Jesus and were baptized as adults perhaps had a greater sense of this attractiveness at their baptism. But they too have to keep growing into a deeper sense of the attractiveness of Jesus.
But there is a tendency in all of us to settle into a routine in our Christian lives. In itself, this is not necessarily a bad thing. There is a great deal of sense in becoming "comfortable" with the Christian way of life as it becomes "second nature" to us. But we must preserve eagerness and zeal even in the midst of routine.
Lord Jesus, increase our zeal for the things of God.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
