In the first reading we see how God heard the cry of the poor and asks, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" Isaiah responds to God's call after some initial hesitation. The second reading speaks about the Prophet and His salvific mystery - the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. St. Paul makes a plea to the faithful to believe in this salvific mystery and thus be saved.
The miracle in the Gospel tells us that the fish were already there and the net was there too; so were the fishermen and the boat but the catch was meagre. When Jesus commands them to cast the nets once again, what changes in Peter is the ability to look beyond the despair of the night that had gone by and to look with hope to the future. Jesus, our Saviour gives Peter this hope and there is a huge catch.
Those of us who are in despair need to look to Our Lord with hope and our faith will help us get through our travails. So we pray, Lord, that we might tide over moments of despair and look to an eternity of hope.
Lord Jesus, if and when we meet with despair, be there with us to help us see the light at the end of the tunnel.
