The saying "when in Rome, do as the Romans do," guides us in adapting our lifestyle to the local customs and practices which are normal. Saint Ambrose is supposed to have said in response to St. Augustine, who observed that the Church at Milan did not fast on Saturday, unlike the Church at Rome. St Ambrose's advice was to follow the custom of the Church where one is situated. But when it comes to very personal moral issues, such as divorce, which question human dignity and sacredness, Jesus insists on the law of God above every mere custom. He expects the inter-personal relationships of God's people to be modeled on God's covenantal relationship with humanity and not on an ethics judged solely by the situation. This courageous commitment requires patient waiting and even endurance in suffering.

Lord, bless my soul; my whole being. Help me to be patient in my struggles and provide me with support and strength to wait for the things You have planned; things that work in Your time, not mine. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
