The Prophet Isaiah reveals God's promise to us, a wonderful banquet which will be a symbol of salvation. The Psalmist sees this promise as already fulfilled: "You have prepared a banquet for me in the sight of my enemies." Every good gift from God, especially the gifts of peace and well-being and protection from all enemies, was to some extent a realization of that promised banquet The Psalmist's words are even more true for us. At the Last Supper, when Jesus faced death, which St Paul calls "the last enemy" (1Cor 15:26), he prepared the banquet of the Eucharist for us in the presence of all our enemies, so that, nourished by his Body and Blood, we would have the courage and strength to live as his good disciples, people who have placed all our hope in the Lord (Is 25:10). Our enemies are the many anti-religious and anti-Christian attitudes of secularism and relativism, whose blandishments and false values entice us and tempt us in so many ways. They can be summed up as self-indulgent passions and desires (Gal 5:24) and are the complete opposite of the gift of the Spirit

Lord, by the gift of the daily Eucharist, keep us free from all our enemies, that we may be worthy to be both chosen and called to eternal life.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the Lord may grant peace to those parts of the world most battered by war and violence.
