People tend to blame everyone and everything when calamity overtakes them. It is the end of the world - how could this happen to me? - there is no hope - are but a few of the usual laments. Seldom do thy put the blame where it belongs - on themselves. Accepting responsibility is not the usual response or a common human trait. Baruch reminded the people that the disaster that they were experiencing was because they had forgotten God and chosen the path of injustice and violence. But he also gave them hope: after purification, they would return and be restored to ten times their former status. We always need to have hope and to learn from the negative things that happen to us. This is far better than cynicism and despair.

The disciples were excited when they returned from their mission. They had seen so many deeds of power worked through them. Jesus agreed - he saw Satan fall like lightning. But he reminded them that all of this was nothing compared to the glory and honor of having their names written in the book of life. Our 'success', recognition, or anything else is not as important as doing the right thing and walking on the side of light. That is the only reward or recognition that we need. When we walk the path of light, we continue to contribute to Satan's downfall and most importantly, we continue the work of Jesus.

Lord, help me to always walk in the light.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
