How is it possible for Moses to talk face to face with God, as if to a friend? Elsewhere in the Bible, we are told that no one can see the face of God and live. It was most likely an angel, a messenger from God, who entered that tent of meeting. But it is certainly possible, even desirable, to consider God our friend and to speak openly and sincerely to him, heart to heart.
Why do some believe in Jesus and follow him and others turn and walk away? The parable of the weeds tells us the reason - the soil - individual people - determines how the seed will grow. There are people that do not make it possible for the seed of God's word to grow and bear fruit. Many are locked in selfishness and sin, and some have actually chosen evil. Jesus counsels us not to worry about it - that will be sorted out at the end of time when we are all judged. But things are not so simple. People do change, even great sinners and evil people. God never gives up on them, and neither should we. It is never too late; no one is beyond hope. In the meantime, we should continue loving, serving, and learning, and never lose our hope and our joy.
Lord, may I speak with You as with a friend.
