Today's Gospel passage reminds us of the importance of faith in the healing process. The faith and wisdom of the Canaanite woman reflects her profound understanding of the implication of the imagery ‘dog' which Jesus used in his response to her request. This account shows Jesus' attitude towards the Gentiles. For Jesus where there is faith, the Kingdom of God is revealed.
This story also reminds us that the one who is in need, has to be humble and courageous to seek help from others. The Canaanite woman was desperate and showed her faith in Jesus to heal her child. Such a faith was rewarded. Do we have the faith like this Canaanite woman?
We are to seek the Lord in sincerity of heart and God will show the way ... On the contrary, in the first reading, we see how the Israelites failed God in their lack of faith.
By this God had shown His might that the Israelites would learn from their disobedience that God reigns above all circumstances.
Let us continue to put our total trust in God and allow God to reign in our hearts, minds and actions.
"Lord, continue to lead and guide us every day of our lives on earth."
