People are amusing and strange. We claim that God is infinite and beyond describing and limiting in any way. But we write many books that claim to have God all figured out, and many individuals even claim to speak for God. We can only hope that God has a sense of humour!

Paul brushes aside human wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. He insisted that only the Spirit knows God and can teach us about God. We cannot 'figure out' God - only those gifted with God's Spirit can fully understand God. It is better to be humble and say little before the divine mystery, seeking only to walk in the way of love and service.

Those around Jesus seldom really understood who he was and what he was about. But the demons certainly knew and were afraid. They recognised him as the holy one of God and knew that their time of power and domination was over. Jesus' command was sharp and clear - be silent and come out of the man. Who has the authority to do such things? God alone. And as God's Son, Jesus still has power over the negative forces in our own lives. Let us seek his help always.

Lord, deepen my understanding.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
