“For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance.” (Mt 25:29) Jesus’ saying in the Parable of the Talents clearly indicates that more is attained when talent is put to service. In fairness, God gives us the ability to contribute for the benefit of others in family, corporate or Church.

In public service, true politicians are like the first two who do more by putting their talents at service, whereas the one who is given one talent buries it. This is a clear indication of refusing responsibility. One who never finds fulfillment is never happy. Sadly, such individuals will continue to be so because of a thousand conditions to justify their refusal to act on the duty entrusted to them, albeit the task is menial and simple.

One great tragedy is that so many people never find happiness, because it is buried for no serviceable purpose. The key to happiness is very simple – serving God.

Having served God, everything in life begins to change. We are attracted to the practice of virtue. The thing to boast about is the conversion of heart which is only possible when one dares to take up responsibility. And at the end of the day, everything originates as a gift from God. Therefore, like St Paul, only in Christ can I boast, not what I have done but what God has accomplished in me in His glory.
