The Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God, invites us to turn our gaze from an adorable and vulnerable baby child to the Mother. Through Mary, we are able to express our words and gestures to the Child Jesus, connecting us to the divine and human. The conversation of awe, praise and wonder could only be addressed to the parents, especially Mary who bore the baby. It is fitting to give her such recognition since she passed through anxiety with endurance, joy and faith.

This is explained by the shepherds who had to find Mary and Joseph in order to find Jesus who was lying in a manger. When they came, the shepherds spoke about Jesus, recounting what they had been told about this child. Mary and Joseph were not the only ones who heard what the shepherds had to say. Such joy could have been spread in the shepherds community.

At different stages of our spiritual life, we come to Jesus in different ways and encounter Him in different circumstances, in daily life in the church, on the Cross. At some stage, we must come to Mary to find Jesus, for she was the one who "treasured all these things in her heart" and so is able to tell us about Jesus.
