The Genesis story is not just the story of a past, it is a story told whenever and wherever sin occurs. Out of the mired twist of sin and vice, the bud of hope emerges. Just like a lotus bud, gradually and serenely blooming tall. The Genesis drama puts before us a stark picture of the disruption of society and the damage to human relationships caused by discarding godly values in making choices. Loving partnership between man and woman turns to dominion and scapegoating. Even the fruitful relationship with earth is weakened. Yet, in all of this, God clothed them and protected them totally from dominating the root of knowledge with adversity.
Jesus fulfilled the basic need of the crowds and His disciples. To feed the thousands from limited resources is no mean feat! The miracle is God's prerogative. For God, firstly it is a cooperative attitude to acknowledge the resources at hand. No matter how limited they may seem. God works wonders with littleness. However, it is a clear sign that Jesus did not want to instill an attitude of complacency in the crowds and turn them into idle spectators. After they ate and were filled; and they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full, Jesus sent them away to return to their normal engagements. We cannot remain idle for the graces upon graces God has lavished on us. To labour is the dignity of being human.
Lord, let my work proclaim the beatitudes of serving You in my littleness.
