Peace in the heart is the priceless gem to carry in the mission. Whether in plenty or in paucity, peace in the heart helps to discern the better option for the benefits of the greater. This peace is anchored in God the Provider. It is freely given and so must not be hoarded but generously imparted to others.
The peace that Joseph treasured, despite being sold out and treated by his siblings as lost, was deeply connected with Israel, their Father. It is a gift that stunned his frightened siblings as he pointed to them that the crooked ways they fabricated to get rid of him out of jealousy had been providentially amended by the Lord. Joseph's skill of discerning the lasting benefit of the reinstitution of their family lineage is fashioned out of reverence of God and respect for the elders. He knew his duty was more than civil, it was sacred.
Jesus imparted His peace to His disciples whom He sent to perform the duties He did. Nothing external or luxurious is comparable to this peace that is anchored in the providence of God. Even if the disciples were met with rejection and hostility, all they needed was to shake off the dust from their feet and depart. Indeed, Jesus was actually shaping the mind and heart of His disciples to discern the lasting effect of any encounter. Do I include Jesus in my decision making?
Dear Lord, let my discerned engagement this day be anchored in Your peace and providence.
