Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, has been attributed with his devotion of easily finding God in all things. Finding God in all things is akin to God becoming the contact point as depicted in the Exodus passage, the "Tent" set up by Moses becomes a sanctuary on the move; one that accompanies Israel on its long journey to the Promised Land. It highlights the crucial element for the Israelite people to discern that the presence of God is inevitable in determining their journeys.
In Matthew's Gospel, there is a clear selection when the kingdom on earth ends, and the kingdom of heaven reigns over, the wicked and the righteous will be clearly distinguished and separated from each other. However, the whole discourse is brought to an end by Jesus giving a description of the truly discerning disciple. He is a "scribe", an interpreter of God's Word, who can bring from his library of experiences "what is new and what is old", someone who appreciates the vision of the Old Testament, as well as the insight of the New. A learned disciple is one who can find traces of God's dealing patiently and wisely with us in our day-to-day affairs of exerting our superior ability and hiding our shameful vulnerability. To be discerning is to grow towards God and love of neighbour. Discernment fosters healthy personal and communal growth, it discards enticement that deforms human dignity and responsibility.
Lord, sharpen our discerning attitude to magnify Your presence in all our endeavours.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
|
INTENTION
FOR FORMATION IN DISCERNMENT.
Let us pray that we might again learn how to discern, to know how to choose paths of life and reject everything that leads us away from Christ and the Gospel.
