Both the first and Gospel readings trace the pivotal role of the Virgin Mary, connecting the quiet Nazareth annunciation to the foundational birth of the Church in the Upper Room. Both passages reveal Mary’s perfect model of discipleship, characterised by quiet devotion and surrendering to God’s plan. While waiting patiently in uncertainty for God to unfold His plan, Mary unites with the community in prayer.

As Mary allowed the power of the Most High to interrupt her plan in her life, so too the Apostles allowed themselves to be led by the Holy Spirit to the birthing of the Church. It speaks about an authentic Christian life that begins by humbly accepting divine intervention, passionate for the “impossible” to happen and moving forward in mission when God’s timing is ripe.

As we pray the Holy Rosary, we are invited to stay with Mary to contemplate on Jesus’ life, death and resurrection from her perspective. Instead of being a passive observer, we learn from Mary to practise the leap of faith, to be completely open and receptive to Divine Will. When we pray with Mary, we begin to see Christ more clearly and to experience His love more deeply so that we may grow in greater faith, hope and love through her intercession.
