We often hear some Christians using the term "born again" and we usually think or assume that it is a term used only by them. However, the Gospel today tells us that this is actually scriptural, taught by Christ Himself. Jesus says, "Unless a man is born through water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."
All of us have been "born" this way through the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. Therefore, this "rebirth" should transform us into new creatures. The question is, why are we still no different from who we were? Sacraments are outward signs of inward grace, but if we do not cooperate with the grace that has been bestowed upon us, then we will continue to remain as we are. God gives the grace freely, but we must decide to receive and respond to this grace freely ourselves.
However, due to our human nature, no matter how much we try to cooperate, we will find it difficult. But for me, it is the faithfulness that matters - being faithful to that call of cooperating with divine grace so that we will strive to follow the path of perfection.
O God, I pray for the courage to walk along the path that leads only to You.
