The story of the journey to Emmaus reminds us that God continually reveals Himself to us, even though we are not always able to recognise His presence. The Gospel reading today also tells us how the disciples on the road to Emmaus, overwhelmed by grief and disillusionment after the crucifixion, walked alongside the risen Jesus without recognising Him. Their sorrow closed their hearts, preventing them from seeing that Jesus Himself was already walking with them, listening and opening the Scriptures to them.

In the first reading, Peter speaks boldly to the people on the day of Pentecost. He reminds them that God had clearly revealed Jesus to them through miracles, signs, and wonders. Yet they failed to recognise Him as the Messiah whom they longed for, because He did not fit their expectations, and so they rejected the gift offered to them.

Today, we too can fail to recognise God's presence, because we are so preoccupied with our own lives and our expectations of who we want God to be. It's only when we open our hearts and minds to what is revealed — in the Word of God, the breaking of bread, and even the words of a stranger — that our eyes would be opened to Him walking beside us.

As we pray for priests in crisis, let us also remember all who struggle with discouragement in their vocation, that they may recognise Christ walking with them through the care and accompaniment of others.

Lord Jesus, please journey with me and those who are in crisis.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day jul be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
For priests in crisis.
Let us pray for priests going through moments of crisis in their vocation, that they may find the accompaniment they need and that communities may support them with understanding and prayer.
