Why are only some people drawn to follow Jesus? After all, everyone is invited. Jesus insisted that those who turned to Him were drawn by the Father. They had been listening to God all along in their hearts. When they heard the Word of God, they responded eagerly. Faith is a relationship, not an intellectual or theological system to which we subscribe. We must always keep our minds and hearts open. And to those who respond to His invitation, Jesus promises eternal life, beginning now in this life. Jesus promises to sustain us spiritually forever, so we should not settle for anything less.
The Ethiopian eunuch was far from home, but he was always searching. As he rode along in his chariot, he was reading and pondering the prophet Isaiah - the part about the Suffering Servant. When he encountered Philip, he invited him into his chariot and listened to Philip's explanation of the prophecy. That was all he needed - he was immediately baptised in a pool by the side of the road. This man was definitely drawn by God the Father and was eager to go wherever he was led. We are called to do the same.
Lord, continue to lead me in Your path.
