It was a time of persecution after the martyrdom of Stephen, and many fled to places such as Antioch. But those who fled were eager to share the Good News of Jesus with the Gentiles there. There were many new believers and news of this reached the Church in Jerusalem. Barnabas was sent to see what was happening. He rejoiced and brought Paul (Saul) to Tarsus where they ministered for a year. When Christians faithfully share the love of Christ, many come to hear and believe. Do I share Christ's love?
An argument took place in the Temple regarding whether or not Jesus was the Messiah. For Jesus the answer lay in the signs and works that He had done. But the people questioning Him wanted a more concrete answer; he, however, refused to respond directly to the question. Instead, Jesus said that those who knew Him, knew who He was and followed Him. To them Jesus would give eternal life. Jesus then asserted that He was one with the Father - a statement that enraged the people. Jesus wanted the people to accept Him by faith because of His actions. That is the way that we are to show our faith in Christ - by our actions. Do I share Christ to others through my actions?
Father, help me to follow Jesus' example.
