Ezekiel prophesied that the day would come when God would unify Israel
under one shepherd-leader who would be a son of David. For this to be
fulfilled the people would have to be cleansed of all their rebellion
against God and His Word. This humbled, purified people would experience
the peace and rest of God's kingdom, and enjoy an unbroken relationship
of love and intimacy with God.
The Shepherd Messiah has come, not only to fulfil but to surpass the
prophecies concerning Him, since He will gather together in unity the
scattered children of God everywhere. However, it will cost Him His life,
as Caiaphas foretells unwittingly. Unworthy though his motives were,
and unaware of his privilege, he, as the high priest, marked out the
Paschal Lamb for sacrifice, the one who would save them all.
Lord our God, help us Your people to prepare worthily to celebrate Your
Passover at Eastertime by a thorough cleansing from all sin so that we
may enter into the joy of Easter.
