Paul in his letter assures us that for those who believe in Jesus there is no "yes and no" but always "yes". Jesus tells His disciples, as He tells you and me today, that we are salt of the earth and light of the world. The point of today's reading is simple enough to understand. Our faith in Jesus is not a compromise with the forces of the world. We must be convinced, just as St Paul was, that Jesus is our absolute and final response to the realities we face in our lives. Jesus is our "yes" to all. Only with such a conviction can we be the light that must shine in our own personal and concrete lives. Any compromise will make us lose our saltiness and the light that we possess. There are no half measures. Many of us live by compartmentalizing our lives. Some of us live a faith that is confined to a comfortable corner and go on pursuing other areas even if they contradict what Christ has taught us about the compassionate Father. Let us pray that God will help us make our faith in Christ the all permeating response in our lives as a whole, especially those areas that continue to deny Him a place.
Lord, help me to make You the absolute "yes" in my life. Amen.
