The Prologue of John's Gospel is telling basically the same story that we heard on Christmas night about the birth of Jesus in the stable with the choir of angels and the visit of the shepherds. But it goes behind the scenes, so to speak, to the inner reality. Jesus is the Word of God. A genuine word reveals the inner thoughts and feelings of the person. Through the Word that is the Second Person, made man in Jesus, God reveals to us His inner thoughts and His overwhelming love for us. Through the Word that is Jesus he 'pitches his tent' in our midst and becomes one of us, like us in all things but sin. Through Him Life and Light come into a world of death and darkness. He is full of 'grace and truth'. Grace is the totally gratuitous gift of God's love which Jesus mediates to us. He is the Way, He is Truth and Life in the very widest sense. He does not just speak Truth; He embodies Truth reflected in His whole way of understanding life and living it. He calls us to go with Him. That is what Christmas means.

Fill us, Lord, with Your truth and help us to pass it on to others by the way we live.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That children may be protected and defended against every form of violence by means of the care taken by their families and of adequate social policies, all over the world.
