What a contrast between the two readings today! The Gospel speaks of a world of privilege where life consists of a social round of 'I eat in your house today' and 'You eat in mine tomorrow' and 'We both eat in C's house the next day'. A world where people are measured by what they can give me and where those outside our narrow circle are excluded. Jesus, however, says that, if we are throwing a party we should make a special point of inviting those who 1, really do need a decent meal, and 2, are in no position to repay the compliment. This is a real test of our love and generosity. The First Reading speaks of a different kind of unity. It is not the world of the social whirl, of flitting from one expensive eatery to the next but rather of a real bonding between people where having or not having are of no account - all get the same love and care. It is an attitude, not of the social climber, but rather of seeing that the other person has the best. When we all behave in that way, everyone benefits. It is also an attitude of being totally positive towards everyone, even to those who are not positive, or even downright hostile, to me. It seems difficult but it really is the best investment I will ever make.

Help me, Lord, to see that when I really care about others, I am taking care of my own deepest needs.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
