Paul has received the gift of understanding of the mystery of Christ in order to be able to pass on the Good News to the Gentiles, and thereby help God realize the universal plan of salvation. Paul did nothing to earn his role as an apostle but God's power was able to overcome impossible obstacles in him. God's grace also enabled the angelic powers to recognize how God's plan of creation had included the work of restoring the universe by placing the fullness of divine power in the Church. Because God has entrusted Christ to the Church Christ is continually handed over to each believer.
In the Gospel, Jesus introduces a parable which seems to be directed to the leaders in the Church who have the duty of dispensing the riches of God. Here vigilance is no longer the key issue. The use of such riches for one's own sake or the use of power to lord it over others are matters of infidelity. God rewards the faithful stewards by personally serving their every need. United with Christ in this continual act of union, the believer is able to draw near to God with confidence and assurance. It does not matter how this will happen, all will go well for God's faithful ones who serve the needs of others.
Lord, help me to be of service to Your people.
