We begin today to read from the Book of Proverbs, a beautiful collection of wise sentences which is addressed to help us organize our lives so that they may be pleasing to God. The pages have to be read at the light of Christ with the illumination of the Gospel. Today, the Proverbs teach us how a human person, who follows the teachings of Wisdom, will find peace and joy in doing good around him.
The Gospel of Luke reminds us of some expressions used by the Lord Jesus. Today a common sense fact, "No one lights a lamp to hide it under a bed, but so that others may have light too". Indeed our Lord Jesus does not talk of a material lamp, but of a "spiritual" one. We need more wisdom these days. We need to ask the Lord to be the "light" to illuminate our minds and hearts, so that others with whom we live and work may see Him in our lives and be wise..
Lord, give me wisdom. May Your word, Lord, be a lamp to my feet and light to my path. (Ps. 119:105)
