The change from "Abram" to "Abraham" (which means 'father of a multitude') is significant. This change was made in view of the new task and responsibility given to Abraham. In this renewed commitment, God called him to make a covenantal commitment to Him.

Similarly, during this Lenten season, we are called to renew our commitment and make changes in our lives so that we may be able to take on a new 'self' and be Jesus' true disciples.

To be disciples of Jesus, we acknowledge and pledge our belonging to Him whose sole response was for the glory of His Father. This is clearly reflected in today's Gospel passage which is reminiscent of the exchange with the Samaritan woman and how the Jews accused Him of claiming to be greater than Abraham and the Prophets. In their stubbornness of heart, Jesus reiterates that He is the one who knows His identity and knows God. The "I AM" expressed the eternity of His being and His complete union with the Father.

Lord, renew our hearts for a true conversion that we may be like You who is in complete union with Your Father.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That those who hold positions of responsibility in the Church may offer a shining example of a life which is always responsive to the guidance of the Spirit.
