The hatred of the Jewish leaders (not shared by the ordinary people) against Jesus is reaching its climax. Seeing Him from their narrow, judgemental perspective, they can only see in Him a blaspheming upstart from Nazareth ('Can anything good come from that place?'). As Jesus told them, when He cured the man who was blind from birth, they were even more blind. There are none so blind as those who refuse to see. If they will not believe the words of Jesus about Himself, at least let them see the things that Jesus was doing. Only the most stubborn and prejudiced could not see the hand of a loving God in all that Jesus was doing for the sick, the poor and the outcast. Unlike the 'learned' Pharisees and Scribes, the ordinary people could see clearly and 'they believed in him'. How often in my life do I fail to hear God speaking to me or God coming to me through another person? And very often it is because of my prejudice against or pre-judgement of that person, blinding me to the loving presence of God reaching out to me.
