The end of Jesus' mission is coming near. He is at the Paschal supper with His disciples. He drops the bombshell: "One of you is going to hand me over." It is an indication of their weakness that the disciples look around to see which of them it might be. "Who is it, Lord?" asked the Beloved Disciple. "It is the one with whom I share the piece of bread dipped in the dish." It is the bread which is His Body, the Bread which unites all with Jesus. For Judas it is the sign of the betrayal of a Brother - a sacrilegious Communion. He went out "and it was night". Darkness had fallen over him. The Passion had begun. For the present the disciples cannot follow; they are not ready. Peter swears: "I will lay down my life for you." Yet, he - the first among the disciples - swear three times denying all links with Jesus. We too have betrayed Jesus so many times - sometimes, like Judas, over money or material things, or, like Peter, to avoid embarrassment or the criticism of others.

Come, Lord, and fill my heart with such a love for You that nothing will ever come between us.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That those who hold positions of responsibility in the Church may offer a shining example of a life which is always responsive to the guidance of the Spirit.
