"He opened their minds to understand the scriptures". That was the Eastertime experience of Jesus' disciples, on some of the occasions when they saw Him after His resurrection. In the prayer and liturgy of the Church since Holy Thursday last week, we've read or listened to many scriptures referring not only to Jesus' passion, death and resurrection but also to the whole story and meaning of the salvation He brought us. How well have we understood what we've heard? What would it be like to hear Jesus Himself explaining it to us? Well, isn't that what our Eastertime prayer should be like - turning over in our minds all these sacred words, and happenings, listening to Him speaking to us in those words and events, asking the Lord to explain for us so that we might understand more deeply what we are celebrating. For these scriptures focus in, as Jesus explained, on the basic message that God's holy one, His chosen Messiah, would suffer pain and death, and would rise from the dead. Not only that, but that in His name people throughout the world and throughout time would learn about the healing and salvation He brought for all, about sins being forgiven through change of heart and repentance, about death being overcome, sorrow being turned to joy. And we, His disciples, are to be the messengers and witness of this.

Lord, make us truly Your Easter people, joyful in Your Resurrection and in our understanding of Your Word and Life, sharing with the troubled world around us the good news of Your redeeming work.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That those who hold positions of responsibility in the Church may offer a shining example of a life which is always responsive to the guidance of the Spirit.
