Once again Jesus warns His disciples of what is going to happen to Him but they find His words too difficult to accept. They go completely against all their expectations of the promised Messiah, whom they now recognise Jesus to be. But they do not protest; they do not want to reveal their lack of understanding. A level of that misunderstanding is revealed in the dialogue which follows. "What were you arguing about on the road?" They did not dare to say because they had been debating over which of them was the greatest. Were they wondering which of them would become the leader after Jesus had been killed? Jesus' question is seriously embarrassing. They now have to learn the secret of real greatness. Greatness does not consist in being above or superior to other people. On the contrary, it is when, in love, one puts oneself totally at the service of others that one is really great. They only have to look at Jesus Himself as the perfect model.

Teach me, Lord, to follow You always in love and service.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all Christians, sensitive to the distressing condition of the peoples who are still suffering from hunger and thirst, may be moved to greater solidarity towards their brothers.
