Many religions, or at least adherents of religions, tend to feel that they have a monopoly on God. At least two, if not three, of the major religions regard - or used to regard - non-members as 'lost', even 'damned'. There are even some Christian denominations which would like to limit the 'saved' to the 144,000 mentioned in the Book of Revelation. Needless to say, they tend to include themselves in the number. This tendency has a long history and we can even see an example of it in today's Gospel. The disciples were beginning to get a little 'high and mighty'. Only they had the right to do the work of Jesus - healing and liberating people from evil forces. Jesus tells them very straight that such people are not to be stopped. And He then enunciates a principle we should all remember: "Anyone who is not against us is for us." In our multi-religious societies today, we all have an obligation to work together in bringing healing, community, justice and peace for all. There is so much we can do together. Ultimately, there is only one God, one Truth, one Love to which all have access. Have I ever worked together with people of other religions in doing good?
Help me, Lord, to understand that absolutely any person can be the agent through whom Your love reaches out to others.

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
