Today's readings continue to help us enter into the essence of Jesus as the Son of God and 'light' to all those who seek Him sincerely.

In the first reading, we have the testimony that the Son came in water and blood (5:6-12) that affirms the belief that He is the source of eternal life and the foundation of God's own testimony.

This Sonship is well illustrated in the cure of the leper of the Gospel event. In this miracle, Jesus reveals His power as Son of God and shows that salvation affects the total person: body and soul. The leper was ostracized both socially and religiously in Jewish society. For Jesus, a human being cannot be regarded as healthy in isolation and independently of other persons. The Spirit that gives life is the body that has symbolically inscribed in it signs of solidarity and collective goals. This makes our Christian communities signs "communion of communities of life".

The third element that illustrates Jesus' Sonship to God is His withdrawal from the enthusiastic crowds to enter into communion with His Father in solitude, thus revealing His intimate relationship with His Father through prayer in the midst of activity.
