The disciples of John the Baptist were truly his disciples. They realized that the Kingdom of God was not about personalities or egos. Their teacher was not important in himself; rather, it was his message that was crucial. His message was: believe in the One to come - Jesus! These disciples were willing to let go of the past, their opinions, their way of doing things, and everything else, because they believed in the power of the Christ. Are we truly willing to learn new ways? Does the call to look at the world, our lives, God, and other people in new ways frighten us? Or are we reassured by the presence of the Lord who calls us to step out into the unknown? Our faith is a changing, dynamic, relationship. Let us not allow it to become stale.

The disciples of Jesus in John's Gospel think that they have finally understood Jesus. Sadly, that is not the case. There is still much to learn. They will collapse after the arrest and crucifixion of Jesus, because they still cannot reconcile the glory of God with weakness and suffering. Just to set the record straight, Jesus assures them that they will have their share of suffering and hardship, but that they will never be alone or without help. Jesus has gone before us to prepare the way, and He has conquered the world. We need but to follow, with courage and faith. The Lord is most present to us during our hardships and struggles.

Lord, give me courage and faith when I most need it.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
