Jesus' simple words are very challenging. We are to change and become like little children if we desire to enter the Kingdom of heaven. As far as the words go, what he says is relatively easy to understand. Yet, how are we to translate his words into action? The Church canonized Therese of Lisieux as an example of how one might take Jesus' words seriously and become like a little child in order to enter into the kingdom. Not everyone, of course, will be able to follow her particular way or her particular spirituality. What is important, rather, is that she shows that it is possible to take Jesus' words seriously and to live accordingly. Different people have been touched and changed by different sayings of Jesus. Their experiences, however, all had one thing in common: they all led to change in some way. Thus, it is possible for us to take to heart the first part of Jesus' saying as found in Matthew: "Unless you change," (Mt 18:3). Change, conversion, is called for. Jesus is speaking to His disciples. They have, to some extent at least, begun to leave all things to follow Him. Yet Jesus still demands change of them. Conversion has to be a permanent part of our lives.
