One could sum up the Bible as an interplay of fear and faith. In general, people are obsessed and overpowered by fears: they fear what they cannot control. God ironically is one of our primary fears, because God is totally beyond us, totally immense and totally beyond our control. Realizing we are nothing in comparison to God, we are scared. The good news for today is that the Lord has breached that fear and become one of us in Jesus. God says in effect, "You can stop being afraid. It's okay. You don't have to live in chattering fear of Me." God's response to Mary through the angel is, "Do not be afraid." He proceeds to give her the message only after He has called her beyond fear. It seems that fear can keep us from hearing what is really being said.

As we commemorate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, let us ask Mary to intercede for us to enable us to cultivate a listening ear so that we too may receive the Word of God, not with fear but with faith.

Dearest Mother, help us to fill our days with a conscious 'yes' to the Father's loving call to become bearers of His Word.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That young people may follow Christ, the way, the truth, the life with generous enthusiasm and be ready to bear witness to him in all the situations in which they live.
