The Jews had many difficulties about accepting Jesus. One of them was that he did not belong to the group that managed the temple. The other was that He did not belong to any group that had political orientation. The Jews were more concerned with their political situation than with sin. Their history is a struggle with God who comes to save them from sin. In the first reading of today Prophet Joel warns them of destruction if they do not turn away from sin and repent. Despite this they continue to be more concerned with the obstacles of their political agenda than with the real obstacles that prevents them from enjoying the true freedom of the children of God.
Jesus in His discussion with Jews showed them that He was really attacking the cause of sin. If they were at all concerned about doing good, then they would be with Him and would try to destroy sin and evil in all its forms. Sin can be very attractive. But one must decide which way to follow: To be with Jesus or be against Him. One cannot remain indifferent or tolerant to sin and still be a real Christian. One who is tolerant or indifferent to sin has escaped from the cross and has decided to avoid carrying it. The struggle against sin is really carrying the cross with Jesus Christ to eternal glory - not to perdition.
Lord, I want remain forever Your disciple. Help me to overcome sin by following Your Word.
