It is terrible to come home and find one's house broken into. The burglar works on the principle of surprise - he comes when you least expect him. Jesus is telling us that He too will come to call us when we least expect Him. He says that not to frighten us but to make sure that we are ready when He comes. A lot of us can be like the servant who thinks the boss will not be back for a long time and starts acting in a shameful manner. It is like the people who say, "I will have a really good time but, at the end, I will go to confession and everything will be fixed up." Jesus is saying that that is a rather foolish way of running one's life. (Let's not forget the parable in Monday's Gospel.)

There are two things we need to remember, 1) we are much more likely to find real happiness by living our lives according to Jesus' way than simply seeking pleasure, 2) the more we have received by way of spiritual formation the more we are responsible for the wrongs we do. "When a person has had a great deal given on trust, all the more will be expected from that person."

Help me, Lord, to understand that by living well today, the future will be taken care of.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That young people may follow Christ, the way, the truth, the life with generous enthusiasm and be ready to bear witness to him in all the situations in which they live.
