Isaiah's self-portrait was perfectly fulfilled in Jesus: "The Lord has given me a well-trained tongue that I might know how to speak to the weary". Jesus spoke wonderfully. This was attested in the Gospels, where people admired him: "No one ever spoke like this man". He was conscious of his mission to the weary, the poor, the suffering: "Come to me all you who labour and are burdened and I will refresh you". His care for us, who are sinners, became for him the weight of the cross and the burden of all his sufferings. When he spoke at the Last Supper about being betrayed we can detect a certain weariness in his voice. He does not complain at having to face death but rather faces it with determination: "The Son of Man goes on his way as Scripture says of him". Jesus had taken upon himself the mission of the Suffering Servant which Isaiah had spoken about, and he did so with that great determination which came from his union with the Father. Even the most determined of us, however, can experience a certain weariness, longing for the suffering to be over.

Lord Jesus, we are often weary and overburdened. Increase within us a greater sense of Your attractiveness, as You draw us to Yourself to lighten our burdens and ease our pains.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
