We have a 'memorial day' in honour of the soldiers who have died on the battlefield, fighting against poor enemies so that our life and freedom may be preserved. Today, the Church throughout the world is having a 'memorial day' in honour of Jesus, the Great hero who died. His battle was against Satan and sin, the enemies of our salvation. His battlefield was the Cross and He died to free us from sin.
The whole life of Jesus was one of love for His people, a love which reached its climax on Good Friday. On the evening before He died, Jesus said at the Last Supper, "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends". We were not His friends, we were His 'enemies' through sin and yet He died for us.
Yes, God loves all people regardless of colour, creed or race. He has proved His love by sending His only Begotten Son to die for the salvation of the world. We are indeed a people loved by God. Today we celebrate the memory and reality of that great love. Therefore as receipients of His great love, let us give Him thanks and praise.
O God, thank You for the gift of Your Son Jesus who died to save us. Help us to praise You joyfully so that others will see You in us. Amen.
