Jesus, unable to do anything for the people in His home town, bemoans their lack of faith. He was a familiar person to them. He was willing to help them but they were unable to trust Him. The issue of trust is raised in Samuel's account of King David. David chose the disaster that the Lord could do something about rather than the disasters that men could cause. He realised that it was better to trust the Lord especially in times of great hardship. It is God who has the capacity to assist us. The people of Jesus' home town seemed unable to realise His capacity to assist them. The Psalm continues the theme of God's ability to assist us in our times of trouble. No matter what the troubles are, there is nothing that is so great that cannot be put before God. He will help us to overcome our troubles. We very often pay lip service to the Lord's capacity and willingness to help us because we are so familiar with it. We need to work hard to develop a deep trust in the Lord's generosity.
